Brace yourselves: NBC has reportedly put Parks and Recreation on hiatus until 2014, with the exception of a few new episodes in November. So basically, everyone’s life is now over. THANKS, NBC.
According to Vulture, the network announced various schedule changes and cancellations of new series on Friday, with the redone schedule failing to have Parks and Recreation listed in a timeslot. Instead, a repeat of The Voice will air in its place on Thursday of this week and we will be deprived of Amy Poehler’s beautiful face (plus the rest of the equally gorgeous and amazing cast) until November 14th—where even then, only back-to-back episodes that night and the following Thursday will air. Subsequently, the show’s Halloween episode will air two weeks after the holiday (that makes total sense…) and its election-night-themed episode will also be a week late.
As Vulture predicts, NBC is looking to draw viewers towards its Thursday, 9 p.m. EST show Sean Saves the World. Sorry…but WHAT? Even if Parks and Rec ratings aren’t what they used to be, everyone can always use the sage advice of Ron Swanson, the endearingly cold stares of April Ludgate, and of course, the witty one-liners from Jerry. LOL, JK. Jerry can leave FOREVER.
After this week’s The Voice episode, NBC will air an SNL Halloween clip next week and a live episode of The Voice the week after. Following these, the time slot will feature a mix of football, a live broadcast of The Sound of Music, The Sing-Off, and (on January 2nd) the hour-long season return of Community. As much as I love a young, singing Julie Andrews, I’m not sure I can survive without Leslie Knope. Plus… FOOTBALL??
Let’s hope this is all a Halloween prank (those exist, right?) and Parks and Rec returns to our screens soon.
