Pantone’s 2012 Color of the Year–Tangerine Tango

by Intern Courtney

If you’ve got a design nerd in your life, you probably know that Pantone, the self-proclaimed “world-renowned authority on color,” announces a “color of the year” annually. Essentially, the company predicts what color will be dominating home-goods, design, and cosmetic stores the following year. And “Tangerine Tango”, a dramatic red-orange, will apparently be THE color of 2012–you should expect to see it on everything from throw pillows to nail polish. Spring collections by Tommy Hilfiger, Nanette Lepore, Charlotte Ronson, and Elie Tahari have already shown this obnoxious-yet-fun red-orange on the runway. Even Sephora is on board–Pantone is teaming up with the beauty titan to release a collection, due out in spring. Which means that, whether you like it or not, you’ll likely be brainwashed into buying some Tangerine Tango lipstick by June of next year. Resistance is futile.
