O’Nutters Really Exists, and It’s Called Tallywackers

by Alice Lawton

Ever since Hooters opened, many have wished for a male version of the popular chain restaurant. Amy Schumer’s hilarious “Lunch at O’Nutters” skit further explored this desire for a male Hooters. Finally, someone has answered those prayers and opened Tallywackers in Dallas, Texas.

Young, muscular men walk around the restaurant serving food in tiny shorts and tank tops. The tank tops are required because of food safety laws, but that doesn’t mean you won’t see plenty of bare chests. The waiters are constantly ripping off their shirts for photo-ops and birthday wishes. You can even request what guy you want as your waiter. Many customers like a waiter named “Connor,” pictured above, because they say he looks like Joe Manganiello.

There are also live performances, including some by drag queens such as Ivana Tramp and Kortney Van Wales. According to a yelp review, sometimes even the waiters get up to perform. What more could a straight woman or gay man (or any type of person who likes men) want?

The menu seems like a step-up from Hooters. This isn’t just another chicken wings joint. The star of the menu is a hot dog named after the restaurant. The Tallywacker is a “1lb all beef frank on a fresh dog bun with mustard, onions, and relish. Topped with 2 scoops of slaw, two pickle spears and Fresh Tomato wedges.” There are also truffle fries, all sorts of shrimp dishes, and a bacon-wrapped filet mignon.

Sadly, customers seem to think the restaurant is not so great. Tallywackers has a 2.5 star rating on Yelp. The general consensus of reviewers is that the food isn’t particularly good, and the waiters aren’t prepared enough. One Yelp user writes, “Go ahead, say the food is great, maybe your mother will believe you.” Another says, “Our waiter tried VERY hard.. I could tell he was.. But it seemed as though he had no waiting experience whatsoever. He was very confused with the orders, couldn’t remember a lot of the things we asked for and had a very difficult time splitting our tickets. He was super nice though– A for effort!!”

Tallywackers has barely been open for a month, and it looks like things are already going downhill. Maybe it’s for the best. Though Chris Pratt seems to think, “if we really want to really advocate for equality, it’s important to not objectify women less, but objectify men as often as we objectify women.”
