NYC: Island of the Living Dead

by emily dirienzo

It’s been a long scorcher of a summer and most of our brains have melted into a gelatinous goop that in just a few weeks we will be scraping off of the sizzling pavement to revive them for fall’s flutter. What better a way to send off the summer’s heat, and begin the quest for new, hopefully more functional, brains than a good old-fashioned game of Capture the Flag, zombie-style! This Saturday in NYC, August 14th NYCentric and Chaos Brigade will be hosting an entire day of blood, guts and all-around good times on historic Governors Island. Come decked out in your zombie finest along with your unbridled—undead—appetite for flesh and fun. Some  ideas  for  she-zombies: First Zombie Michelle O-zomba, Zombie Gaga, Joan Hollow-face (Zombie Secretary!), and last but not least Lin-zombie Lohan. Who said zombies can’t be topical?

If living is more your thing and you’d sooner leap in front of a Brooklyn-bound R train than be caught dead (or close to it!) foaming at the mouth in tattered clothing, then team up with the Commandos and kick some cadaverous keister!  War will be waged at promptly 2:30 pm at Colonel’s Row, and continue on until around 5:30pm, or whenever a flag is captured. My money is on the Commandos because I’ve never seen a zombie move faster than a brisk hobble, but who knows what kind of genetically evolved creatures will show up for this horrific event.

For more information check out the listing on Levy’s Unique New York and be sure to attend the game’s after-party in Williamsburg, Brooklyn for music, drinks and post-battle boasting.  Free ferries will be leaving this weekend from the Battery Maritime Building in downtown Manhattan and Pier 6 at Atlantic Avenue in Brooklyn, so rise from your respective boroughs and feast on the late-summer festivities.
