NOW Hosting Rally to Protest TIME’s Ban on the word “Feminist” in NYC Today!

by Mariana Garces

The New York City chapter of the National Organization for Women will be rallying today against the latest poll from TIME magazine that said they would like to ban the word “Feminist” from our lexicon in 2015, along with the words “bae” and “kale.” NOW is having none of this nonsense, even after TIME’s sad attempt at an apology for the poll results.

The protest will be today (November 19) from 12:30pm-1:15pm at TIME Headquarters, 1271 Avenue of the Americas (6th Ave. between 50-51st). So BUSTies, if you agree with NOW, and you happen to be in NYC, head on down to the rally!

From NOW:

Last week TIME Magazine suggested banning the word “feminist” in an annual poll, insinuating the word that defines an individual who supports gender equality belongs in a virtual word trash-bin alongside “OMG” and “twerk.” According to TIME, feminist is a word that might make you “seek out the nearest pair of chopsticks and thrust them through your own eardrums.”  The National Organization for Women immediately launched its own poll in protest of the ridiculous notion that “feminist” be reduced to a fad.  Tomorrow, the organization will stand with local feminists to announce the results of its protest poll that put words like “bitch,” “slut,” “feminazi,” “asking for it,” or “ho” on the chopping block.
