Nikka Costa is back with the best album of her career thus far. But don’t be misled by the album’s title—this collection is more modern-day funk and R&B than classic disco with a mirrorball. On the title track Costa raps to a killer dance groove, and on songs like “It’s Just Love” Costa showcases her powerhouse vocals at full force. There are also some quiet numbers, like “Satellite Girl” and “Slow Emotion”, which display what a nuanced singer Costa is. With Dirty Disco Nikka Costa has created a safe space to let go, dance, and have some well-deserved fun.
