Okay, so of course all sexist jokes are dumb, but it turns out we can now say for certain that all those jokes about women being bad drivers are just plain false. Let’s look at the facts.
According to a study from Quality Planning, a research firm that works for insurance companies, men are 3.4 times more likely than women to get a ticket for reckless driving and 3.1 times as likely to be cited for drunk driving. This is due to the fact that “women are on average less aggressive and more law-abiding drivers — attributes that lead to fewer accidents.”
It sucks that we have to endure the bad driver stereotypes, but guess what? We win when it comes to insurance rates. In most states, auto insurance rates are lower for women. Another study showed that overall, women pay about 9% less for auto insurance than men. Suck it, boiz.
That’s not the only place we see advantages. A study by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety found that more than 11,900 male drivers died in U.S. traffic accidents in 2009, compared with just under 4,900 women drivers. But I won’t brag about this one. I’m not that heartless.
The bottom line is STFU about women being bad drivers. I’m no slouch behind the wheel, and now I have stats to back that up.
