New Dating App Designed Exclusively for Women

by Kat Hamilton

Experienced online daters know that it can be difficult to filter through the sea of people looking for love online; it often all seems weirdly clinical. A new app called Swoon hopes to provide us ladies with an e-solution to the sometimes-irritating world of online dating. Designed for ladies, by ladies, Swoon’s trying to change the way we meet people online.

The app tracks your location using GPS and shows possible male or female matches in your area. Their photos are shown flipbook style, and you have the option to “like” people you find interesting. The app won’t reveal your identity unless someone “likes” you back (thereby minimizing possible embarrassment), and you can chat, in-app, with anyone with whom you’ve got a mutual attraction (meaning you don’t need to share your email addy, if you don’t want to).

Swoon seems like a great option for women who feel that apps like the ones put out by OkCupid are too general or intrusive. It might be too soon to tell if this app will encourage more women to pursue online dating, but it sounds promising.

Do you date online? If so, what’ve your experiences been like? Would you use a dating app?
