Neko Case Performs Timeless Favorites And New Songs In Nyc On Her ‘Neon Grey Midnight Green’ Tour

Neko Case returned to the Beacon Theatre with a performance that was equal parts fierce, funny, and deeply felt. Backed by a stellar five-piece band, Case delivered a set that spanned the breadth of her career, mixing fan favorites like “Magpie to the Morning,” “That Teenage Feeling,” and “Deep Red Bells” with standout tracks from her new album, Neon Grey Midnight Green, including “Match-Lit,” “Wreck,” and “Rusty Mountain.”

Before launching into “Baby I’m Not (A Werewolf),” Case paused to speak candidly about the song’s inspiration—her experience with menopause. Raising her arms triumphantly, fists clenched, she declared how powerful and liberated she feels, earning cheers and knowing laughter from the women in the audience. It was a quintessential Neko moment: raw, witty, and defiantly human.

The encore was a gift to longtime fans, featuring luminous renditions of “I Wish I Was the Moon,” “Hold On, Hold On,” and “At Last,” each one greeted like an old friend. It was a night that captured everything great about Neko Case with brilliant songs, unguarded humor, and a voice that still sounds like no one else on earth. By the time the final notes faded, it was clear that Neko Case isn’t just aging gracefully, she’s also evolving fiercely.
