Momma Needs a Drink

by Kelly McClure

The holidays are basically upon us, what with Thanksgiving being next week and all. Doesn’t it seem to sneak up on you every year? It feels like just yesterday I was complaining about being too damn hot and sweaty to leave the house, and now I’m pricing frozen turkeys and making Christmas shopping lists for my loved ones. This time of year can be stressful, and sometimes the only way to keep things in check during times of stress is to get nice and shit faced. Who’s with me??

While having my afternoon tea and flipping through a magazine, I chanced upon the mention of a new liqueur being put out by Art in the Age, who are known for being the makers of such hits as Sailor Jerry Rum and Hendrick’s Gin. Their newest booze sensation is called Root and is formulated from the 18th century recipe that eventually became Root Beer.  The description on the label states that Root has a rich bouquet of birch, smoke, baking spices, and vanilla. Now if that doesn’t sound like the liquid version of, “grandma, shut the hell up and pass the candied yams,” I don’t know what does.
