Was your SimCity a work of art? Today the Museum of Modern Art is unveiling its new video game collection, highlighting the often undervalued aesthetic merit of game designers and programmers’ work. Fourteen games will be incorporated into the museums Applied Design installation, including classics such as Pac-Man, The Sims, and Tetris. The games will be mounted onto screens, and more than half will be playable by specially made controllers. More complicated, long-running games such as EVE Online will be accompanied by tutorials and demos for curious museumgoers. This collection, which will remain on display until January, features only a fraction of the 40 games MoMA intends to acquire. This is definitely the most sophisticated way to play Pac-Man this weekend; we’ll see you there!
