It’s no secret that this TV season saw a rise in the number of female-led sitcoms, and it looks like this lovely trend will continue into next season, too. After renewing New Girl for a second season, FOX has added another quirky-girl comedy to its lineup, created by/starring/produced by none other than BUST cover gal Mindy Kaling!
Fans of Kaling know that she has the experience and talent to make a sitcom work. Since the early days of the American Office, she transitioned from staff writer, to actress, to producer, to director, and has penned some of my all-time favorite episodes, like “Diwali” and “Ben Franklin.” Her memoir, Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me (And Other Concerns) was hilarious and relatable, and her web presence is endlessly entertaining.
Her new sitcom, It’s Messy, is a single-camera show that will star Kaling as an OB/GYN trying to get her shit together. Below is a shot from the pilot that has her looking very much like a glittery superheroine. My DVR is gonna be all over this in the fall.
