The multitalented Cate Le Bon continues to push her artistic boundaries marking a milestone in her illustrious career with Michaelangelo Dying. The age old subject of love, both celebrated and lost, is explored here. “Jerome” is first with its ambient Cocteau Twins like atmosphere. “Mother of Riches” grooves with a Dream Pop feel, while “Heaven is No Feeling” rocks things up a bit. Cate’s nuanced vocals effortlessly float, soar, and then dip into her lower register reminiscent of both Joni Mitchell and Nico. Speaking of the latter Velvet Underground alumni, John Cale, duets with Cate on the ballad “Ride.”
