The fast and nasty rap collaboration, Run the Jewels, who released their self-titled debut album in 2013 as a free digital download, have declared their intention to re-record their upcoming sophomore album Run the Jewels 2 “…using nothing but cat sounds for music.”

In September, the duo offered up some pretty ridiculous pre-order packages for RTJ2, including a $40,000 kittylicious Meow the Jewels bonus album option, with the asterisked caveat that “run the jewels reserves the right to take your money and not fulfill any of its obligations as outlined in any package priced at 35k or more.”

But they’ve been convinced by kickstarter.

A frisky fan/blogger created the kickstarter campaign with the goal of $40,000, promising to distribute the album to all contributors. El-P agreed to go through with felining his album if the kickstarter was successful (and donate the kitty to charity).

Turns out there is high demand for cat beats under rap tracks. Now, a number of other producers want in on the project: Just Blaze, The Alchemist, Geoff Barrow, Skywlkr, Zola Jesus, Nick Rook, Baauer, Prince Paul, and of course, a shitload of cats, have all signed on to Meow the Jewels.

The project is fully funded, but there are still six days left to contribute ten bucks for the album. Or, for $500, send El-P a recording of your own cat to be featured on the album. Your whiskered pet will be catapulted to hip-hop stardom and will probably never settle for dry food again.
