JD Samson’s latest project, the groove-inspiring electro-pop outfit MEN, has been garnering rave reviews and inspiring impromptu dance parties worldwide. Originally started as a re-mix project with fellow Le Tigre member Johanna Fateman, the group now consists of Samson, artist and former Mirah collaborator Ginger Brooks Takahashi, and Michael O’Neill of The Ladybug Transistor with occastional contributions from Fateman and artist/writer Emily Roysdon. Pairing infectious dance rhythms with socially conscious lyrics, MEN juxtaposes issues such as wartime economy and the cost of gay/lesbian pregnancy with catchy electro-beats, guitars, and exhilarating live performance. They begin their international tour tonight in New York at the Mercury Lounge and will be playing two dates at South by Southwest before heading overseas for a slew of European dates.
