Melania Trump: “As a Feminist, I Cannot Vote for My Husband.”

by Debbie Stoller

In a phone interview with Dutch radio program “De Leugenaar” earlier today, presidential candidate Donald Trump’s wife, Melania Trump, revealed that she will not be voting for her own husband. “I am a feminist,” she explained, “and I cannot support his views on women. As a feminist, I cannot vote for him.” When asked if she thought Trump should be running for president, she replied, “Oh yes! Donald is best at everything. He is best businessman. He is best politician. He is best love-maker. But he is not best feminist.”

Mrs. Trump, who studied design and architecture at the University of Ljubljana in Slovenia, told the stunned interviewer that she has frequently encountered sexism in her life. “For instance, everybody always asks about my modeling career, and my marriage,” she said. “What about my degree, or that I started Ljubljana’s first women’s center? Nobody asks about that.”

Mrs. Trump also admitted to her great admiration for Gloria Steinem during the interview. “I have only three role models in my life,” she told the show’s host, Jan van Lirpasloof.  “Gloria Steinem, Marilyn Monroe, and Bella Abzug.” When asked whether she would consider casting her vote for Ted Cruz, or even a Democrat, Mrs. Trump swiftly rejected the idea. “I will rather not vote at all,” she explained. “In fact, I will be speaking at a feminist conference in Belarus on election day.”
