BUST School For Creative Living Teacher Spotlight: MINKA Founder Aki Hirata Baker

by Mia X. Perez

MINKA is a healer-led wellness and healing center in Brooklyn serving individuals who want to learn how to thrive in every area of their lives. MINKA specialists and healers will be joining us at the BUST School for Creative Living on December 8th and 9th during the BUST Craftacular at Brooklyn Expo Center in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. They will be offering classes based in meditation, astrology, internal decolonization, and reiki.

We interviewed Aki Hirata Baker, founder of MINKA and one of the healers who will appear at the BUST School for Creative Living.

Can you tell our readers a little bit about your business?

MINKA Brooklyn is a wellness and healing space that is dedicated to holding space for folks of all identities and expressions who are looking to shed old skin to rediscover what they are made of. We believe individual healing is a catalyst and fuel for lasting and meaningful social change, and we continuously work towards being more integral to anti-racism, anti-colonial, and anti-patriarchal principles.

What advice do you have for people who are pursuing a career in your field?

Know yourself more everyday. Be dedicated to the services you can offer to the world. Be humble.

Tell us about what you’ll be doing at Craftacular.

We are offering four workshops!! Sunder Ashni is offering “OSHO Chakra Breathing Meditation,” Ashley Brockington is offering “The Twelve Letters Of Astrology: Know The Basics, Know Yourself,” Jana Lynne Umipig is offering “Awaken The Sacred Erotic,” and I am offering “Reiki and Spirit Journey.”

What else should our readers know about MINKA?

Our space is co-run with our community members and most of them are practitioners themselves. We come from many backgrounds and paths—we are all connected by our passion and commitment to better ourselves, so we can serve others better.
