Tell us about yourself.
Hi! My name is Midge and I’m based out of Hoboken, NJ. My background is in graphic design, but I now design and craft accessories for quirky bad ass babes like myself that have an appreciation for feminism and all things retro and kitsch. I have a very tongue and cheek sense of humor, and I love incorporating that into my products and work. I run a style blog as well as my crafty business, and I also really like to roller skate.
How did you get started?
I got really into making riot grrrl zines after I did my senior design thesis on the visual aesthetics of riot grrrl and DIY zine culture about three years ago. My work in those zines got a great reaction. I decided to start putting that towards things people could wear, because I’m a fashionable lady and I love wearable things. So translating my art work into accessories kind of happened naturally. It quickly expanded into making all sorts of unique stuff that I would want to wear myself! That’s my main rule with making things; that it’s something that I really want to wear.
What’s inspiring you right now?
Music has always inspired me, but for some reason right now especially. I like to make things that I can picture my favorite bad ass girl bands wearing.
Any advice for those starting out in the handmade industry?
If you want crafting to be a full time job, then you have to treat it like one. Which means putting your all into your heartbodysoulbloodsweattears into your craft and shamelessly promoting the be-jesus out of your vision (social media and #hashtags are your bff). If you build it, they will come!
What are you most looking forward to at BUST Craftacular’s Primped?
Definitely the make-and-take crafts! Crating is kind of, you know, my life.
