Put on your camo cargo shorts and boobie-hole white tanks — Mean Girls is coming to Broadway next March.
Mean Girls will set up shop in Broadway’s August Wilson Theatre. Previews begin on March 12, 2018, and the show officially opens on April 8th, according to the official Mean Girls on Broadway page. If you can’t wait until then, the musical hits D.C.’s National Theatre next month where it will run from October 31st to December 3rd.
Props if you show up to the D.C. premiere looking like this:
Tina Fey – feminist icon, comedic goddess, and the writer of the original screenplay – wrote the book. The music is crafted by Fey’s husband Jeff Richmond with Nell Benjamin writing the lyrics. Mean Girls is directed and choreographed by Tony Award winner Casey Nicholaw.
The musical will be a modern day take on the original’s plot. Teenager Cady Heron arrives at a high school in Illinois after living in Africa with her zoologist parents. While attempting to navigate the wild world of teenage life, Cady ends up in a plot to bring down the Plastics, a clique of beautiful, popular and rich girls. Take a second to imagine Queen of the Plastics Regina George’s Instagram account.
Erika Henningsen stars in the role of Cady, while the Plastics will be played by Taylor Louderman as Regina George, Alex Park as Gretchen Weiners, and Kate Rockwell as Karen Smith.
This musical is going to be so fetch.
