Mary Lambert: the Singer You Should Listen to Right Now.

by Darcy Sturges

She’s pretty much everything we love.

If the name “Mary Lambert” sounds familiar, it’s because you may have heard her on a little track called “Same Love.” Her vocals (she wrote the chorus) were featured on the song by Ryan Lewis and Macklemore (yes, the Macklemore of “Thrift Shop” fame).

Hailing from Seattle, the lesbian-slam-poet-songstress sings haunting ballads of loving one’s self and overcoming pain. According Lambert’s website bio, she also graduated from Cornish College of the Arts, has composed a full symphony piece for the Seattle Philharmonic orchestra, published a book of poetry entitled “500 Tips for Fat Girls,” and is Seattle’s 2011 Grand Poetry Slam champion as well as the 2012 Northwest Regional Slam winner.

Her track “I Know Girls (bodylove)” not only showcases her slam-poet skills, but puts her vulnerability and concern for girls in the forefront. Give it a listen:

Yeah, she’s amazing.
