Margo Price has just released the latest single from her forthcoming album, Hard Headed Woman (available on August 29th). Featuring vocals from Jesse Wells, “Don’t Wake me Up,” evokes the essence of Bob Dylan’s “Subterranean Homesick Blues” promotional video from D.A. Pennebaker’s 1967 classic documentary about Dylan’s 1965 tour of England, Don’t Look Back. “Don’t Wake me Up” is a freewheeling country rocker with hundreds of masterfully-spun words with lyrics like “The way the world is going, ain’t where I’m at,” Price and Welles sing in unison, willing themselves to dream away the politician screaming on the television, and the madness seeping through the internet.
Margo cowrote the song with singer-songwriter, Jesse Wells, and the video features Margo with a group of women performing a ritualistic Pagan, Goddess, Wiccan dance number that makes those Top 40 music videos look like an outdated, Vegas floor show. One would expect nothing less from a true blue, Feminist, badass like Margo Price. Check out the video here.
