Mannequin Pussy’s 4th Album Goes Full Beast Mode

by shannon carlin

Mannequin Pussy is in beast mode on the band’s abrasive yet inviting fourth album––I Got Heaven. The Philly rockers call out Christian hypocrisy on the in-your-face opening title track and long for an unrequited crush on gorgeous shoegazer “I Don’t Know You.” Lead singer Marisa Dabice makes chaos sound romantic on the bouncy, power-pop bop “Sometimes,” but not before warning that her bark is equally as menacing as her bite on snarling strummer “Loud Bark.” “Oh, what’s wrong with dreaming of burning this all down?” Dabice coos on the Smashing Pumpkins-style “Nothing Like.” When heaven sounds this good, absolutely nothing.
