Lorde Puts A Dark Spin On Hunger Games Soundtrack

by Kat Hamilton

Teenage phenom, Lorde, has been blowing minds since her chart-climbing hit, “Royals,” and upon the release of her addition to The Hunger Games soundtrack, it looks like she will remain queen bee indefinitely.

Her cover of Tears for Fears’ “Everybody Wants to Rule the World” (currently streaming online), sounds like a dark battle cry.  It seems fitting for the bloody dystopian images in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. Lorde’s rising stardom is the perfect match for this year’s most anticipated film. Even Curt Smith, original band member of Tears For Fears, had positive things to say about the Lorde Version:

“I think it’s absolutely amazing. But then I love her, I think she’s brilliant. We love it when other people cover our stuff. Sometimes we steal them and use their version live.”

You can listen to her version here and just for funsies, listen to the original version of “Everybody Wants To Rule The World” here.

Which do you like better? Do you think  Lorde’s version will be a good addition to the Hunger Games soundtrack?
