Lorde is Breaking Records and Knocking Our Socks Off

by Katie Fustich

Lorde, A.K.A. the 16-year-old New Zealand singer-songwriter and tumblr extraordinaire, can now add “record-breaker” to her list of accomplishments. Let’s see…where to begin? For starters, her awesome first single “Royals” is officially platinum, she’s the youngest artist to top the Billboard chart since 1987, and now she has officially claimed the longest #1 streak on Alternative Radio by a female artist. What what!

Lorde’s debut album Pure Heroine was just released a week ago (September 27th) and she’s already at the top of iTunes and Amazon.com charts. I know it sounds like we’re just dropping stats here, but there’s no way around it—Lorde has gone from self-releasing her first EP The Love Club to being recognized alongside the crew badass DIY musicians, like Grimes, currently reinventing the music biz.

Ever since the Lorde-wave started growing back in March when “Royals” debuted, people were quick to dub her a one-hit-wonder or  a quick spark of talent that would be just as quick to fade…but she’s living up to the hype and beyond.

Don’t believe me? Check it out for yourself! Lorde will be touring across Australia for the foreseeable future, but for those of us in the Northern Hemisphere, check out her virtual presence on Tumblr, Twitter, and Instagram!
