Only one week until the London Craftacular! If you’re planning on attending, look for Glazed and Confused Ceramics, pretty ceramics made and designed by Tana West.
West is an artist living and working in east London. After studying sculpture at St. Martins College, she made a set of teacups for a friend’s wedding gift. The creation of the gift sparked an interest and she then began to use ceramic processes to create traditional teacups. West has been working under moniker Glazed and Confused Ceramics for two years now.
The designs on West’s teacups and ceramics are based on drawings from her sketchbooks. In one her designs, “Cockney Sparrow,” instead of the usual rural-themed patterns that appear on traditional blue and white porcelain, West depicts London’s urban wildlife. For another design, West was working in a hospital where workers refereed to deadly bacteria, Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), as “Mrs. A.” And thus West’s design “Mrs. A” was born.
From butterflies, funky floral patterns, chic clowns, playful clusters of bacteria, to city-wise animals, West’s design repertoire is eclectic. For a quirky, contemporary twist on traditional porcelain tea sets, stop by the Glazed and Confused table at the Bust Craftacular next weekend. West has been a vendor at Craftacular before, and looks forward to the fun atmosphere. West said: “I enjoy the mix of music, dance, craft and DIY… oh and cake!”
