Express your wild side with maximalist decor
Maximalist interior design is taking over TikTok. The style is all about more, more, more: filling a space with personal collections, using power-clashing patterns, mixing colors, and including rich materials—think velvets, silk, and fringe. The over-the-top opulence vibe can get costly, so thrift stores and estate sales are your best friend. But if you don’t have time to thrift hunt or you just can’t find that item you’re missing to pull it all together, we found some epic pieces that won’t break the bank. Mix these in with some cheap gold frames and candle holders (you can always paint them gold or any other color that goes with your motif). Add in a wild rug (tip: if you can’t afford or find a large rug that fits your theme, you can layer a small rug over a larger, more basic rug). When it comes to colors, choose a main color, an accent color, and a neutral, and feel free to work with different shades of those colors. Think about what you like and what you collect and base your theme around that. Having something that repeats throughout the room, even in a small way —whether it’s a leopard theme or a collection of old typewriters—will help make the room look more purposeful and less chaotic.
