These guys should be Cults status by now. Hailing from Toronto, this five-piece band combined R&B, disco-pop, folk, layered vocals, and electronic beats to create the exciting and varied tracks on their debut EP, It’s Never Not Happening.
Six tracks off the album – including the infectious “Girls’ Night” – are available for download (FREE!) on their Last.fm page.
Their most recent single, “Funny Games”, is available for download (also free) on their bandcamp.
Recommended Tracks:
“Girls’ Night” (On my “Most Played” list; love the back-and-forth vocals)
“Orion” (Groovy, R&B with heavy bass)
“Dress So Fine” (The Dirty Projectors come to mind)
“Funny Games” (Passion Pit-esque)
“Charlie Kaufman” (Disco dance tune; beginning electronic track sounds a bit like Javelin)
One of the members, Liam Sanagan aka LUM, put up a three-track demo under the name Boys Choir on his blog, bedroomer. All three tracks are a cappella, and on the gentle, soothing side. If you like the Beach Boys (along the lines of “In My Room”) and Fleet Foxes’ harmonies, scroll down and click the image to download.
