The Chapin Sisters are Lily and Abigail Chapin, two siblings who have been creating gorgeous harmonies together since they were kids. The L.A. folk-pop group began in 2004 as a trio with their third sister, Jessica. The Chapin Sisters became a duo when Jessica left shortly after their first record was released in 2008. Abigail and Lily’s second album, Two, was followed by a tour with She & Him in 2010, where they simultaneously opened and performed back-up vocals for Zooey and M. Ward.
Currently living in NYC, the sisters had an epiphany that resulted in the production of their latest full-length, A Date with the Everly Brothers. The two realized how extraordinary sibling vocals are one day, while listening to the country duo’s Greatest Hits. They thought, “Only siblings could sing like they do, and we wanted to learn from their tricks, their nuances, their harmonic ideas and songwriting mastery.” They’ve now put together a compilation of covers of the brothers’ songs, with a group of talented New York musicians. They’re even donning the pompadours, suits, and ties for full ‘30s rock ‘n’ roll effect!
The ladies put together a Kickstarter for their project, which you can view here and read more about their story. Although they’ve reached their goal, the duo promises that all extra donations will go toward the speedy release of their next album. Here are some details on their ambitious new goal:
“If we make $17,000 we will have $5,000 over our budget- and will use that money to start recording our next album of original songs, which we can not wait to start. This is our new goal- if we make it, all of you get extra stuff! We will record one more Everlys song, one of our favorites: “Who’s Gonna Shoe Your Pretty Little Feet” and send it to everyone as a digital download.
We will also send you a couple demos of original songs from our new record- so you can see what we’re working on as we do it. You will receive these as they are finished, also as digital downloads. This will be a kickstarter exclusive! You will hear it first!”
All donations go to paying the musicians that helped and performed on A Date with the Everly Brothers songs. Learn more about the sisters’ amazing project on their Kickstarter page.
And if you live in the NYC area, the girls are performing tonight at the SoHo Playhouse for Elisabeth Gray’s one-woman play, “Southern Discomfort.” Read more about the play and ticket info here!
