Lauryn Hill Is a Fearless Vampire Killer

by Ivanna Avalos

I fell in love with Lauryn Hill after listening to my aunt’s copy of “The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill” when I was 10. To this day, I get chills when I listen to that album, partly because of her incredible voice and songwriting skills, and partly due to lyrics like these: “You know I only say it ’cause I’m truly genuine/Don’t be a hard rock when you really are a gem.”

Since then Ms. Hill has famously stayed away from the spotlight, popping up periodically to do (packed) live shows. But we, and every other music fan on Earth, have been anxiously awaiting her second studio album for what feels like forever. So you can imagine my excitement when I saw a clip of her performing a new song, “Fearless Vampire Killer,” at DC’s Warner Theater on Feb. 29th. I can’t get enough of this track–does it mean a new album’s in the works? Dear God, I hope so. ‘Til it materializes, we’re lucky to have “The Miseducation” to tide us over.
