L.A. Art Fans, This One’s For You

by Claire Filipek

Superchief Gallery, which BUST partnered with for our first art show last summer, is jumping coasts and opening a new gallery in downtown L.A. The grand opening group show opens on May 15th and will run through July 31. This bi-coastal gallery’s new digs flaunt 4,000 sq. ft of warehouse space, which they say they’ll take as a challenge to “go bigger and better than before.”

The new space has lead to Superchief’s largest group show yet, featuring Swoon, Dennis McNett, Coby Kennedy, Miguel Ovalle (DIZMO), and many more.

We’ve profiled the incredible artist Swoon in BUST before, and we’re megafans. We also can’t wait to check out this multimedia talent’s installation, Submerged Motherlands, which is at the Brooklyn Museum through August 24. Her work as a street artist in New York City has caused fans on the east coast to literally swoon, so the west coast better watch out.

Swoon’s Swimming Cities project, which took her and her friends around the world on sculpted art rafts, was documented  by NYC-based photographer Tod Seelie and those shots will make their debut at Superchief’s L.A. show. We wish we were gonna be there to scope them out. JetBlue, wanna fly the whole BUST team over for a visit?
