Who you gonna call? Filibuster! Or Kristen Schaal, because this woman is a filibustering machine.
Last night’s Daily Show had Kristen satirically riffing the most prominent women in Texas this week – Wendy Davis and Jodie Laubenberg. Schaal didn’t equate Laubenberg to Davis, but proclaimed that Laubenberg was hands down more impressive! Say what?
Equipped with her hot pink Mizuno Wave Riders, a portable bathroom, and a chest scarification of #istandwithwendy, Schaal is ready to keep filibusterin’ all night for women’s rights. But more for women’s right to make up stuff about the bodies. And women’s right to earn less then me and to take the man’s position in enforcing anti-female legislation…
Laubenberg recently talked about how important it is that there are hospital emergency rooms and—brace yourselves ladies—rape kits that will help clear you out! Yes, rape kits that’ll clear you out! I didn’t know that was even possible.
Now Davis’ 11-plus hour filibuster brought national attention to the issue of a woman’s right to make decisions about her body. But Laubenberg gave women the right to make things up about how her body works! Schaal put it well…”isn’t that supposed to be an [ignorant] man’s job?”
Schaal’s affront to Laubenberg really gets to the heart of the situation in a funny way by making outlandish comments about how much money the country will save by paying women less! The scary thing is that many people probably do think that way, which is why we have so many debates as it is.
Then again, one of the best ways to open up a dialogue is to point out how ridiculous and outrageous something is. Go Kristen—keep filibusterin’!
