Kitty the Killer: A BUST Movie Review

by erin maxwell

A secret organization known as the Agency trains high school girls to become deadly assassins, each with the code name Kitty. Beautiful and deadly, the Kitties are highly trained, lethal butchers under the watchful eye of the Grey Fox, their mentor at the Agency. But when Grey Fox is betrayed, he picks an unlikely predecessor to pass on the moniker of “Grey Fox”—an untrained and inexperienced insurance salesman named Charlie (played by Denkhun Ngamnet). With the help of Kitty Dina (played by Ploypailin Thangprapaporn) and her fellow Kitties, Charlie gets a masterclass in Assassination 101 as the Kitties mold the former nerd into a potential leader.

Director Lee Thongkham pays homage to a legacy of Hong Kong action films with this entry from Thailand through his use of quick-cut edits, slapstick humor, and ultra violence—as well as familiar tropes such as beautiful but deadly women killers, secret societies, over-the-top violence, and insanely complex heists—to create an extravagant tribute to the genre. Part action-packed gorefest, part absurd comedy thanks to the acting chops of Ngamnet as the naive Charlie, Kitty the Killer is a thrilling romp that slays in all the right ways.
