Kirsten Dunst Slams Selfies In New ‘Aspirational’ Short

by Samantha Albala

Kirsten Dunst — whether you love her for her first kiss with Brad Pitt in Interview with a Vampire, or because she was the true hero of Eternal Sunshine of The Spotless Mind — is breaking new ground with her social commentary of the selfie.

Published late September, the advertisement titled “Aspirational” proves how ridiculously annoying it is to steal pictures with celebrities.  In partnership with her friend Matthew Frost, a satirical fashion photographer, and Vs. magazine, this short was created to highlight the priorities of the social media age.

In Dunst’s interview with Vs. Magazine she says, “You’re taking pictures with anybody who wants one… Or they’re taking pictures of you and you don’t even know it. I can spot people trying to be strategic with their cell phones. I’m like ‘Hey! Why don’t you just ask me for a picture! Come up to me. I’m a normal human being.’”

The girls depicted in this film could have had a once in a lifetime conversation with the actress instead of using her to get strangers to follow them on Instagram. Beyond that they didn’t even ask for the picture! What the hell is up with that?!
