Justice Sonia Sotomayor on Sesame Street: “A Princess is Not a Career”

by Maggie Carr

U.S. Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor stopped by Sesame Street to dish out some career advice to the adorably oblivious, princess-obsessed Muppet Abby Cadabby.

“Pretending to be a princess is fun, but it is definitely not a career,” says Sotomayor. “A career is a job you train for and prepare for and plan on doing for a long time.”

Though it is technically possible to make a career out of being a princess—and young Ms. Cadabby may have a leg up by being a fairy-in-training—I’m glad that a smart, successful lady is telling young girls to focus their smarts on more attainable goals.

Check out this precious, if sorta dream-shattering, clip. (My favorite part is when Abby yells “CAREER!” and is magically transformed into a Supreme Court justice. You know, just like real life.)
