Lucinda Williams is my homegirl, my kindred spirit, my sister from another mister. Her sad, sweet, rollicking songs have been on replay in my itunes for as long as I realized I adored country music, naysayers be damned. I am so unbearably excited for her 30th anniversary tour, in which she’ll be performing sets from across different periods of her career to celebrate 30 years as a recording artist.
Things kick off September 18th in Minneapolis. In NYC and Chicago Williams will run a ‘Three Night Stand’ in which each opening night will feature songs from 1979-1989, from tha albums Ramblin’, Happy Woman Blues and Lucinda Williams, the second night songs fromn the albums Sweet Old World, Car Wheels On A Gravel Road and Essence, covering 1991-2002. On the final night in each city, Williams will perform music from 2004 -present, in which she recorded World Without Tears, West and her latest album Little Honey. I love William’s recent stuff, but I can’t wait to hear selections from across her career–the early albums always bring me back to belting out ‘Rolling Along’ and ‘Hard Road’ in the car with my sisters.
