I went to see the very fine singer, Shelby Lynne sing the songs off her upcoming 2008 album of Dusty Springfield covers, Just a Little Lovin’ last night at Hiro in NYC. Now dont get me wrong, Shelby is an amazing singer, and I think her 2000 release, I am Shelby Lynne, is probably one of my favorite albums of all time. (it’s very Dusty influenced). But during the rather subdued and lackluster set, I found myself just wanting to hear the real deal. Which is maybe not fair, but Dusty is really sort of untouchable. There’s no denying it.
