A tribute to the struggles and triumphs of growing up, first-time director Jen McGowan’s film Kelly & Cal tells the story of a former Riot Grrrl whose transition into suburban motherhood is, well, not going very smoothly. Kelly, played by real life rock star Juliette Lewis, begins an unlikely friendship with her seventeen-year-old neighbor, played by Jonny Weston, who has recently suffered a spinal cord injury. Their culminating connection might be just the thing to jump start both of their lives.
