JoLivi Celebrates With Her New Pop Anthem “Love Who You Wanna Love”: BUST Premiere

by Emma Bredthauer

BUST is excited to premiere LA-based songstress JoLivi’s new single, “Love Who You Wanna Love”! Featuring strong pop vocals and hip-hop inflected drums, the song is perfect for blasting in the car with your girls on a night out — but it also has a message. In an exclusive interview with BUST, JoLivi shares the inspiration behind the single:

It’s not easy to describe this song, because for me it has so many meanings. It journeys through a lot of different and difficult times in life, my romantic relationships, my varied friendships, as well as my career. I’ve loved and I’ve lost. And I have definitely learned a lot about myself through it all.

I fell in love with a girl once and it was an emotional bond that I had never really experienced with any guys I’d dated. I fell in love with a person. I fell in love with her aspirations, her goals, her family, and our friendship. I had never before questioned myself about who I should love before this relationship, and it was then I realized that there are many people who must do so.

“Love who you want to love” is a expression of how I believe everyone should go through life — and that is without judgement. I’ve had friends struggle through times of confusion on their orientation and before my own experience I had always encouraged them to break free and not care about what anyone else will think of them. But I know now that it is extremely difficult, that you may find yourself at times in battle between your own heartfelt emotions and the hurt that may happen to the people that love and care about you.

This song is my love song to everyone who will listen! Be who you want to be, love who you wanna love, change if you want to change. Just think with your heart instead.
