Joan Jett, Carrie Brownstein, & Tavi Gevinson Want You To Get Out to Vote!

by Samantha Albala

Midterm elections are a week away and there couldn’t be a more important time to vote! Statewide laws will show up on ballots across the country that will harm our sisters in Texas, Wisconsin, North Dakota, Ohio, Arkansas, and many other states. We need to fight for our rights over our own bodies, our voices, and basic human equality. The time is now to say NO to laws that allow rapists custody and rights to a child resulting in rape (29 states), and NO to being without an abortion provider (89% of states). We have recently seen the horrible things that can happen when a state restricts our rights to accessible abortions and birth control.

We must rally together at our polling stations on November 4, in the spirit of Joan Jett and our favorite feminists to combat the outdated ideals of these politicians who don’t have our best interests in mind.

The following PSA was put together by the projection company The Department of Peace, which is made up of Sarah Sophie Flicker, Tennessee Thomas, Maximilla Lukacs, Rebecca Fernandez, and Jorjee Douglass

Some of our favorite ladies sing along to Jett’s “Bad Reputation” and we hope you will too, all the way to your polling station!  Watch below and spot our own BUST Art Director Laurie Henzel and intern Mariana Garces!
