Here in the Pitch is the kind of record that flows from one song to the next, taking the listener into its own universe. Jessica Pratt’s unique singing voice makes you feel like you’re being enveloped in warmth. The bossa nova vibe on “By Hook or by Crook” sails along, and then there are sparser tracks like “Nowhere It Was” with just Pratt’s hypnotic vocals, a minimalist beat, and an ambient synthesizer. “The Last Year,” which has an infectious melody combined with Pratt’s reassuring lyrics, is an earworm, like the rest of this amazing album, that you’ll actually want stuck in your head.
