Jamila Woods Got A Little Help From Toni Morrison And Her Astrologer On Her New Album Water Made US.

by shannon carlin

With help from her astrologer and Toni Morrison, Jamila Woods mines her dating history to create her third—and most personal—LP to date. She interpolates Des’ree’s “You Gotta Be” on the play-it-cool love song “Tiny Garden” and turns NBA legend Allen Iverson’s infamous quote into a relationship mantra on the R&B chiller “Practice.” Psychedelic symphony “Bugs” urges us to move past inconsequential dating pet peeves, while the spare but dynamic spoken-word track “I Miss All My Exes” finds the silver lining in every breakup. Water Made Us is Woods’ love language; you’d be wise to listen.
