It’s Official, Everyone Loves Adele

It’s Adele’s world– we all just live in it. Apparently no one can resist the charms of the green-eyed songstress. She’s sold more than 4 million copies of her second album, 21, thanks to her widespread appeal. Even your grandma loves her, right? Now Billboard’s crowned her the Top Artist of the Year along with Number One Song and Album of the Year honors. Not too shabby, considering it’s the first time ever a woman has earned herself the triple crown.

It’s easy to see why everyone loves her. Her problems with the opposite sex got us rooting for her with “Rolling in the Deep” and as SNL proved a few weeks ago, it’s hard to feign a dry eye when it comes to her ballad “Someone Like You”– (Fun fact: This song is the first ever to hit number one on the U.S. charts featuring only voice and piano.)

But Adele wasn’t the only lady to make waves in music in 2011. For the first time, all four of Billboard’s Top Artists of the year were female. Rihanna came in at number two, with Katy Perry and Lady Gaga coming in three and four. This also marks the third year in a row that a woman takes home Top Artist honors. Lady Gaga earned this spot in 2010 with Taylor Swift taking it home in 2009.

Since Adele is recuperating from throat surgery, it might be a little while before we get to see her sing live again. Hopefully, this video of her performing “Turning Tables” (sorry, another tearjerker) from her just released Live At The Royal Albert Hall DVD will help tide you over.
