French model Isabelle Caro passed away on November 17th, her family revealed last week. Caro, referred to by the New York Times as the “international face of anorexia,” made waves when she was photographed nude for a 2007 billboard for the Italian fashion label Nolita. At the time, Caro’s 5’4″ frame weighed a scant 60 pounds and was posed under the phrase “No Anorexia.” Her cadaverous appearance horrified many, and the advertisement was eventually banned in Italy. The model, whose eating disorder began in her early teens, was outspoken about her anorexia and frequently appeared on French and American talk-shows to discuss the terrifying emotional and physical the disease takes. Caro was 28 at the time of her death.
