There are definitely some misconceptions when it comes to the idea of librarians, especially male ones, so the idea of a sexy librarian calendar totally tickles my fancy. The world might not know it, but there are a million different kinds of men working in libraries these days and the Men of the Stacks project is set up to show just that. They hope to change the stuffy connotation the media tends to perpetuate and showcase a sexier side to the men behind the stacks. Who are these guys exactly?
“We are, of course, professionals. We are educators, programmers, project managers, entrepreneurs, program coordinators, contractors, consultants, and speakers. We are academics. We are authors, diversity officers, historians, administrators, deans, professors, and researchers. We are creatives. We are musicians, bakers, painters, and storytellers. We are athletes, yogis, gym-rats, runners, and hikers. We are passionate. We are dog-lovers, radicals, conservatives, Christians, and Buddhists. We are in our twenties. We are in our forties. We are in relationships. We are perpetual bachelors. We are privileged beings who try to use their advantages to better the lives of others.
Who are we? We are The Men of the Stacks.”
Sounds pretty sexy to me! These guys could “check me out” any day of the week (Sorry, I had to go there). Reading is hot and to quote the great John Waters, “If you go home with somebody, and they don’t have books, don’t fuck ’em!”
The coolest part of the whole project though is that all proceeds from calendar sales are being donated to the awesome It Gets Better Project. I’m certainly happy to see some hot book-reader credit where it’s due, but I’m even happier to see that it’s going to such a great cause!
