Inspiring Photo Series Looks to Showcase Women’s Diversity

by Elizabeth Ollero

Amy Herrmann, an Australian photographer, is trying to photograph 100 women for her “Underneath, We Are… Women,” series. And, she plans on photographing them in nothing but their knickers.

Herrmann’s project was created to photograph a diverse group of women from all walks of life: skinny, fat, short, tall, mothers, trans, tattooed, scarred, young, old. The end goal is to “[showcase] the amazing diversity that is the female form.”

While there will only be 100 women photographed, Herrmann hopes that each woman photographed will share her “newfound knowledge of empowerment over body awareness and acceptance” with other women, educating thousands of women. “Education is key to giving women and men a better understanding and appreciation for the diversity of the female body and the ways in which it grows, shapes, and changes over time and with different life experiences. And what better way to educate than through honest and uplifting photographs of 100 amazing women!”

If real pictures of real women float your boat, Amy Herrmann is looking to raise money to fund this empowering project.
