This Tattoo App Lets You Get All Of The Ink With None Of The Pain

by Meghan Sara

If you’re a tattoo aficionado with the itch to fill that blank skin, inkHunter just may be your new favorite app.

“May be”? I mean, DEFINITELY! The concept came out of a hackathon at Karazina University in the Ukraine, and was built by four students, according to The Daily Dot. The idea was for people to try on tattoos before they commit to something permanent. InkHunter CEO Oleksandra Rohachova divulged that they are working with temporary tattoo companies and tattoo artists to connect with prospective customers: “Our app will become a funnel which starts with people who are just thinking about tattoo, and ends with those who are confident in the tattoo they want and artists who can get it done.”

Phew! Well, that sounds cool, but how does it work? Well, first you have to draw an unamused smiley face on your skin. Presumably because that’s the face your mother makes when you come home with a new tattoo?

No, Rohachova explains, “We need to know at least four points of surface to overlay tattoo with perspective.” Fair point, and I should add that my mother’s face has a lot more murder behind her eyes when I come home with new ink, but that’s not keeping me up at night, so don’t you fret about it, either.

Then, using the app, you can choose from a variety of different artists’ work to test drive.  Choose a design to try on, take a photo, and it’s almost like having an actual tattoo!

After trying on the design of your choice, inkHunter sets you up with a link to the artist’s Instagram account, so you can book an appointment and seal the deal, aka MAKE IT PERMANENT. Aw, but what if you live on the other side of the world from these wonderful artists? No problem:

inkHunter also features flash designs from online temporary tattoo shops!   So you can make your statement…semi-permanent?  This app is so much fun to play around with, it’s just as fun as getting a tattoo, but without the painful parts!

I’m referring, of course, to telling your mother.
