14 Posts About The ‘Yuge’ Inflatable Trump Chicken To Make Your Day

by Erin DeGregorio

A giant, inflatable chicken that resembled President Donald Trump took center stage in the White House’s backyard yesterday. And in case you haven’t seen it yet, the chicken had swooped golden hair, a disapproving facial expression (with those eyebrows, too!), and raised wings that mimicked Trump’s hand gestures.

The inflatable originally stemmed back to China’s Lunar New Year celebration during the end of January. Since it was the start of the Year of the Rooster, blow-up versions of a Trump rooster were all over China. Slate reported nearly two months later that the Chinese weren’t “very happy with Trump, who taunted China on the campaign trail and flirted with Taiwan during the transition.” It then became popular here in the states for nationwide Tax Day Marches in mid-April. According to CBS News, the inflatable chicken was a visual cue for the president to release his tax returns, as his predecessors had done.

Now the New York Times  has reported that documentary filmmaker and organizer Taran Singh Brar was the person behind the latest D.C. blow-up. The report said he received a permit to inflate the chicken this past Tuesday, August 8, from the U.S. National Park Services after much persistence. Brar then pumped up the 23-foot-tall chicken and staged it to face the Ellipse side of the White House yesterday morning.

“We are out here to criticize our president for being weak and ineffective as a leader and being too afraid to release his tax returns, too afraid to stand up to Putin and now engaged in a game of chicken with Kim Jong Un,” Brar said, according to the Washington Examiner. “Yet he wants a military parade in DC. It’s all incongruous, and we are here to make fun of him for that.”

The White House and Trump, who is currently on his 17-day retreat at his Bedminster, New Jersey, golf club, did not publicly acknowledge the lawn décor on Twitter.
