Ima tell you when I’m ready, when I’m ready Ima tell you! – New Orleans Bounce!

Critics and fans alike have been itching to hear something new in the Rap genre for years, and New Orleans has stepped up to the plate to deliver. Turns out that Louisiana has been a hip-hop incubator for the past decade; dotingly cultivating a set of grade-A chicks, dudes and chick-dudes. Well, the veritable golden egg has hatched and the artists of Sissy Bounce are shouting out, “I’m ready! And I’m tellin’ you!” The ‘Sissy’ in the ‘Bounce’ is a sub genre denoting the sexual orientation of the rappers themselves – artists who are openly Gay and Bi-Sexual. Despite the social stigma, rappers Big Freedia, Sissy Nobby, and Katey Red (to name a few) have sky rocketed to the top of the charts in New Orleans, and it won’t be too long before they do the same on the world circuit. These individuals have asked and analyzed the question of gender and preference so affectively that the barriers between men/women, gay/straight, etcetera have literally disintegrated to where the community at large sees these descriptors as exactly that, now free from any negative connotations. Beyond breaking down social borders, the magic that transcends the music is the unprecedented response to these artists from women. Though heavily loaded with raw, dirty sex from the lyrics to the ascribed ‘booty roll’ dance move, Big Freedia and others have the innate ability to create a uniquely safe environment for women. Audience members embrace their sensuality full on, feeling free to both dance sexily and shoo away anyone they don’t want in their groove. The unreplicable styling and addictive “Triggerman” and “Brown Beats”  will be sure to get your booty in motion. Don’t miss out on BUST’s profile of these artists in the April/May Men We Love issue! Get schooled and prepped for Big Freedia and Rusty Lazer, who will be coming to New York to perform next month! We’ll be sure to keep you in the loop!
