Governor Brad Henry of the OK state made an official announcement released last week stating that he will sign an executive order tomorrow, on April 28 at 2 pm, naming the Flaming Lips song ‘Do You Realize?’ as the official rock song of Oklahoma, overriding the House.
Henry’s press statement continued, ‘For more than 20 years, (they) have produced creative, fun and provocative rock music’ which has ‘earned them Grammys, glowing critical acclaim and fans all over the world.’
According to a statewide Internet vote last year, there were more than 21,000 votes cast, over 50 percent of the popular vote. The Flaming Lips added their own statement saying ‘As many people around the world know, The Flaming Lips are proud to be from Oklahoma. We want everyone to understand that only a minority of the representatives voted against this law.’ The signing of the executive order will be held at the Oklahoma History Center in Oklahoma City. The governor will also declare ‘Flaming Lips Day’ during a gala celebrating the signing of the order.
After all, they are Oklahoma’s own Lips. SWAK!
