Hump Day Home Stretch, Part 2: Something New

by Intern Brittany J.

And here, ladies and perhaps gentlemen, is something I know much less about, but is still incredibly awesome.

Check out this new video from Invincible + Waajeed, Detroit Summer/Emergence. First watch analysis? Straight up city summers, sweating the moment you get out the door even though you took a shower 20 minutes ago, wearing as little clothing as possible even though you have more jeans and tshirts than anything else, dresses even though you don’t feel dressy, everyone’s sticking to themselves and wondering aloud, it has to be illegal to be this hot on a subway platform… Yeah. so it’s Detroit, but this song/video feels like everywhere in the summer. Not only that but it brings out your positive side with the short but sweet Emergence at the end. Nice. Gotta love it when people are rapping about hope and change and rebirth as opposed to the usual booties shakin’ and threats to enemies to watch their backs. (Not that booties shakin’ isn’t fun, clearly.) Gotta love it when the MC is a woman. Too few of ’em, straight up.

ANYWHO
Watch this, then check out the Detroit Summer website to see the great things being done in the community, and Invincible’s site to see what she’s been up to, see some behind the scenes footage, eagerly await their album next year.
